Communicating effectively and increasing emotional intelligence.\nIntroduction to mediation: Stages of the process\, competencies\, and guiding principles.\nMediation concepts: Identity\, Diversity and Personal bias.\nThe Role of the Mediator: what do Mediators do and how.\nPre-mediation and opening the session best practice. Identification of issues\, positions\, and interests.\nGenerating options & problem-solving.\nAgreement writing and post mediation follow-up techniques.\nThe Mediation Act of Trinidad and Tobago\, 2004.\nThe Code of Conduct for Mediators.\nEthics in mediation.\n\nThis isn’t your regular training. \nThere’ll be a lot of interactive lectures\, demonstrations and substantial mediation exercises\, including real/role-play sessions\, across a broad spectrum of disputes. \nHere’s how we’re a little different than others:The training is designed for adult learning. We recognize that individuals learn differently. \nAnd so\, throughout the programme\, our experienced facilitators will determine the most effective approach and emphasis during the lesson plan. \nThen\, to ensure that it’s effective\, you will be assessed on your understanding and skills development. SUMMARY:Sports Mediation Master Class 2019
DESCRIPTION:It is widely accepted that the sports sector has become a multi-billion-dollar global industry. This new reality has raised the stakes to unprecedented levels\, often leading to high-profile conflicts\, whether they relate to\nteam selection\, contracts\, governance or doping. Mediation can successfully resolve these challenging disputes whilst still preserving vital relationships. However\, to be successful in this environment\, the unique dynamics of sports disputes must be understood. This two-day highly interactive Advanced Workshop provides a unique opportunity to develop a specialised understanding and learn the necessary Practical Skills of Sports Mediation. \nFacilitator: Mr. J. Tyrone Marcus\nAn Attorney-at-Law and the current President of the Trinidad and Tobago Association for Sport and Law\, Mr Marcus completed a Masters’ Degree in Sports Law and Practice with the De Montfort University in\nLeicester\, England. He is an Adjunct Lecturer in Sports Law at UWI\, St. Augustine\, the author of Sports Law in Trinidad and Tobago (Wolters/Kluwer 2019) the co-author of Commonwealth Caribbean Sports Law\n(Routledge 2019) and the former Senior Legal Officer at the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs. \n  \nLearning Objectives:\nParticipants will gain a working knowledge of how to effectively resolve sports disputes by mediation\, through\ninteractive sessions and practical case studies addressing various themes including: \n• Sports Law and Sports Disputes\n• Is sports mediation better than going to court?\n• Resolving Team Selection disputes: Thema Williams v Trinidad and Tobago Gymnastics Federation\n• Dealing with Contractual and Financial Conflicts: 2006 World Cup footballers and WestIndies cricketers\n• The Fight for Control of National Sports Governing Bodies\n• Developing a career in Sports Mediation
